Financial analyst CV example

A financial analyst's job is to turn numbers into decisions, so the CV has to show more than Excel skills. It should show which decisions your analysis changed and what that achieved: money saved, more accurate forecasts, budgets prepared faster.

The example suits financial planning and analysis (FP&A), controller and financial analyst roles. In Lithuania these jobs are common in international groups and shared-service centres, where the CV is read in English, sometimes by a finance manager in another country.

What to put in a financial analyst CV

The impact on decisions, not a description of the analysis

“Prepared reports” says nothing. “Cost analysis led to savings of €400,000” shows your value.

Scale: turnover, business units, budget size

Figures give context: an analyst at a €2m company and one at a €200m company do very different jobs.

Tools: Excel is no longer enough

Power BI, SQL, Python: list them if you use them. More and more companies ask for them in FP&A roles.

Qualifications with their status

CFA, ACCA, CIMA: give the level you have reached and the year. A qualification you are still working towards is worth a line too.

Most common mistakes

  • Generic phrases (“analytical thinking”, “attention to detail”) with no proof.
  • Mixing up accounting and financial analysis experience; a CV that is not tailored to the specific role.
  • No figures on budget size or company size.

Frequently asked questions

How is a financial analyst's CV different from an accountant's?

An accountant records and reports; an analyst forecasts and advises. In the CV, put the emphasis on models, forecasts and decisions rather than tax returns.

Do I need the CFA qualification?

It is not required, but at larger companies and banks in Lithuania a CFA or ACCA qualification helps a lot. List it even if you have only passed Level I.

If the ad is in English, does my CV have to be in English too?

Yes: match the language of the ad. International groups and shared-service centres (SSCs) usually advertise and work in English, while local companies may advertise in Lithuanian, so keep both versions current. Translate job titles and qualifications the same way in both, and use your university's official English name.
