Project manager CV example

In a project manager's CV, show the scale of the projects you have run: budgets, team size and duration. State the methodologies you used, the results you achieved and the projects you delivered on time and within budget. Add relevant certifications.

The example suits IT, business and construction project managers. Adjust the terminology to your field. Project management already speaks English (scope, stakeholders, risk register, steering committee), so the part to get right is your job titles: translate them precisely, and keep a coordinator role as “Project Coordinator” rather than upgrading it to “Project Manager”.

What to put in a project manager CV

Scale in three numbers

Budget, team size and duration, for every project. Without them, “project manager” could mean anything.

On time and within budget, honestly

Say how many of your projects you delivered on time: “12 out of 14” sounds more credible than “all of them”.

Field and methodology

IT, construction, marketing, manufacturing, and Agile or a traditional approach. Employers look for a similar context.

Certifications with the year

PMP, PRINCE2, PSM, SAFe, with the year issued. If one has expired, renew it or leave it out. These certifications are international, so they go into an English CV unchanged.

Most common mistakes

  • Projects listed without their scale or result.
  • A list of duties (“planned, coordinated, monitored”) instead of achievements.
  • No clear line between what you did yourself and what the team or contractors did.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need PMP or PRINCE2?

In large organisations and the public sector, often yes; in startups and small companies, hands-on experience matters more. Either way, a certification helps your CV get through applicant tracking systems (ATS).

How do I move into project management from another field?

In your CV, describe the projects you have led in your current role (even unofficially): goal, team, budget, result. Add a Scrum or PRINCE2 Foundation certification.

How many projects should I list?

Describe the 6–8 most important ones in detail and sum up the rest in a single line (“plus 10 smaller projects of up to €50,000 each”).
